Click Here for a Junior Police Academy application. Cadet applicants must submit their most recent report card and have no history of assaults or weapons violations. Applications can be turned in to the Juneau Police Department front desk during business hours. The Junior Police Academy is a summer program designed for 6th and 7th grade youth to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of law enforcement. Participants will be referred to as "cadets" throughout the academy. Cadets will be guided through a variety of hands-on experiences ranging from crime scene investigation to the safe handling of firearms. Cadet shirt, cap, and notebook will be issued to each cadet for use. Uniforms are required and will consist of the cadet shirt, blue jeans without holes or tears with a belt, and active footwear (for example, tennis shoes). Session dates are as follows: Preference will be given to first time attendees on a first come/first served basis.
If selected for the Academy, the $25.00 fee will be collected at the parent-cadet orientation on the first day of the session. If a scholarship was requested, the parent will be notified of the award. Rules of cadet conduct and expectations
Parents will be invited to meet with the Junior Police Academy representative. By applying for the Academy parents agree to commit their son or daughter to attend all sessions of the Academy. While the Academy is in session, it will be treated as a "closed campus" session which means that cadets will not be allowed to leave before the instruction and activities have concluded. Note: Snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided on the final day of each session.
