Chief Greg Browning is pleased to announce the Retirement of Captain Jerry Nankervis and as a result the following promotions

Lieutenant Ed Mercer to the position of Captain of Operations
Ed Mercer has 19 years experience in law enforcement. He started his career at the Sitka PD in 1993 and moved to Juneau PD in 2000. He holds an Advanced Certificate from Alaska Police Standards Council. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2004 and Lieutenant in 2006. As Lieutenant, he first commanded the Special Operations Unit and later assumed command of the Patrol Division. As Captain, Mercer will be in command of both the Patrol and the Special Operations Unit.

Officer Dominic Branson to the position of Sergeant
Dominic Branson has 12 years of police experience, all at JPD. He holds a BS Degree in Criminal Justice and an Intermediate Certificate from Alaska Police Standards Council. He has considerable experience with drug related investigations. He was awarded the Outstanding Service Medal in 2009 after a particularly complex undercover investigation. Sgt. Branson will be assigned to Patrol.

Chief Browning said, I am pleased to have been able to make these promotions from within the Department and I have confidence that both of these gentlemen will be outstanding additions to the management and leadership team at JPD.
The promotions are effective on June 13, 2011.
