Summary:On 02/02/12, about 0020 hours, The Juneau Police Department received a report of a possible avalanche on Thane Road. Officers from JPD drove to the slide area of Thane Road and confirmed there was an avalanche that covered the road.

Further investigation into the size of the avalanche was done from Douglas boat harbor. The avalanche appeared to have come down in the main slide chute and went clear to tide water. The depth and width of the avalanche will be determined at first light.

The State Department of Transportation was contacted about the avalanche. DOT will be responding to clear the area as soon as it is safe to do so. There have been no reports of persons or property being injured or damaged because of the slide.
