The Juneau Police Department would like to invite all members of the community to celebrate this year’s D.A.R.E. Culmination.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a nationally recognized drug and violence prevention program aimed at giving information and skills to elementary student since 1983. The D.A.R.E. program is a collaborative effort by certified Police Officers, Educators, Parents, Students, and the Community to officer an educational program in the classroom. Its goal is to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among our youth.
During this school year 5th grade classes in the Juneau School District have participated in the D.A.R.E program. Over the nine weeks, the focus of the program is to give the child skills to overcome pressure to use drugs/alcohol. Students come to learn physical, emotional, social, legal risks, and effects of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and inhalants on their developing brains and bodies.
These young people are taking their first steps toward being the safe and responsible adults of our future. Please come join us in recognizing their efforts.
D.A.R.E. Culmination is at Centennial Hall, Tuesday March 27th, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be available after the ceremony. |
