INFORMATION RELEASE |
| Subject: MVC- Injury | Date: 02-26-2013 11:35:44 | | From: Sgt. Chris Gifford | Case or Incident: #130214-009 | Summary:On 02-14-2013 at 6:51 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle rollover at 19 mile Glacier Highway. The caller reported at least two persons with injuries, including one person trapped inside of the vehicle and another underneath the car. Responding officers arrived at the scene and closed both the inbound and outbound lanes of Glacier Highway for a period of about one hour.
Investigation revealed the vehicle, a 1994 Honda Civic, had been traveling inbound when it began skidding, crossed from the roadway into a pullout above Tee Harbor, then back across the roadway. The vehicle collided with the rock wall on the uphill side of Glacier Highway before coming to rest upside down in the ditch. There were three occupants in the vehicle, all of whom were transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital. Two of those persons had apparently life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle was totaled. The investigation into this case is continuing. Both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.
Update:
At the time of the accident, two of the occupants of the car were medevaced out of Juneau for medical treatment. As of last week one of those occupants was to be released from the hospital and was to return to Juneau. The second occupant is still being treated for critical injuries. The investigation is still on going.
