INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: August 17th Bike RodeoDate: 08-13-2013 12:12:55
From: Lt David CampbellCase or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

On Saturday, 08/17/2013 from 11:00 AM 3:00 PM, the Juneau Police Department will be conducting a Bike Rodeo at the Nugget Mall. Officers will be working with kids to teach bicycle safety, which will include the proper use of bike helmets, bike skills, and the rules of the road. Youths are encouraged to bring their bikes to the Nugget Mall to participate in the activities. Participants in the rodeo will include members from the Juneau Police Department, the Juneau Freewheelers Club, and Cycle Alaska.

Since June 1st, 2013, JPD has received five separate reports of bicyclists being struck by motor vehicles. With a new school year starting on Tuesday, August 20th, there will be more children riding bikes as they commute to and from school. Therefore, the Juneau Police Department would also like to take this time to remind motorists to watch out for people riding bikes.

For more information about the JPD Bike Rodeo contact Lieutenant Kris Sell at (907) 586-0600.
