Officers involved in the service of the arrest warrant observed evidence of drug use and applied for and received a search warrant for the residence.

Officers ultimately seized 155.4 grams of heroin which is equivalent to .35 pounds of heroin. The street value when sold as individual doses of .1 grams at current market value of $100 per dose means the heroin has a street value of $155,400 dollars. 8.7 grams of methamphetamine was also seized, with a street value of $2600.

Between the firearms in plain view during the arrest and those found during the search warrant execution, four handguns, and two rifles were seized. One handgun was fully automatic, which is illegal to possess without a permit.

Additional charges are anticipated.

On April 22nd, at about 11:00 a.m., members of the Juneau Police Department SWAT Team and other JPD officers served an arrest warrant on 45 year old William Byron Benedict of Juneau. Benedict was arrested without incident at a residence in the 1900 block of Lemon Creek Road. The arrest warrant is a result of a federal grand jury who indicted Benedict for attempted possession of methamphetamine and heroin with intent to distribute.

Firearms were located in the residence as well as drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are expected.
