Summary:The Juneau Police Department would like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Dr. John Bursell in administering CPR to a man experiencing a medical emergency on a flight yesterday from Boston to Seattle. Dr. Bursell and his wife, Jamie, were traveling from Boston to Juneau after both ran in the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Dr. Bursell performed CPR for what his wife described as a considerable time period prior to the flight landing in Fargo, North Dakota so the man could taken to a waiting ambulance. The emergency landing is receiving press in North Dakota, and was described as Alaska Airlines flight 15.

Dr. Bursell has been nominated for JPD’s Citizen’s Award for Lifesaving. This award may be given to any community member or visitor directly responsible for sustaining or attempting to sustain another human life. JPD has quarterly award ceremonies. The date for the next ceremony has yet to be determined.
