From: Erann Kalwara - JPD PIOCase or Incident: #180413-006
Summary: Three reports were received today at JPD reference telephone fraud. On all three incoming calls, the caller ID indicated the calls were coming from the Juneau Police Department. The suspects represented themselves as being federal marshals and advised the citizens that due to missing jury duty, there were warrants out for their arrest.

In one call, the suspect convinced a citizen to purchase prepaid cash cards at a local store and then had the citizen relay the code numbers and personal information to them over the phone. The suspect told the citizen that if they brought the cards to JPD, they would be reimbursed. Unfortunately for that citizen, this situation was a scam.

JPD encourages you to protect yourself from fraud by securing personal information. Consider any unsolicited phone calls carefully, regardless of the calling number. If asked for financial information or pushed to take an action that seems unreasonable, hang up and call the purported company or agency directly at a published telephone number.
