Q. I think you should have suggested the guy who lost his fishing rod and reel should also keep an eye on the other local outlets: Craigslist, the local Facebook buy/sell/trade page and maybe even the local newspaper for items for sale. I'd even suggest the local consigments shops and maybe even garage sales. Do any of the local stores take in "old, used" equipment as trade-in on new stuff?

That is an excellent point! Well done! As far as retail stores also taking used goods as well as selling new items, that does happen and sometimes without a great deal of advertising. In this case it's worth asking anyone selling used outdoor items if the rod and reel have shown up.
