Q. Are there any ordinances that specifically address the use of Paintball markers ( pistols , guns etc. ) in public areas i.e. an open field that is not private property?

Dear Juneau Resident,

State law and city ordinance are more general in nature, which is by design so that new laws don't have to necessarily have to be written everytime a new activity comes up. Laws and ordinances basically protect private and public property from unauthorized use, damage, and the endangering of people.

The open field has to be publicly owned property or privately owned property. The people doing the paintball activity need to be authorized to do so by whoever is responsible for the property. If the activity is allowed then the behavior cannot damage property the responsible manager doesn't want damaged or endanger people who are allowed to be there. The only way for JPD to comment about a certain activity be okay in a certain place is to have the specifics.
