Q. Could you please tell me what the rules are regarding parking in the center of a cul de sac? My neighbor and I have differing opinions so we thought it would be best to quit grumping about it and ask someone who might actually know

Dear Juneau Resident,

I don't think any street engineer ever intended for people to park in the middle of cul de sacs. If that were the intent there would be lines in the center to designate parking. Also, could emegency vehicles like fire trucks still get around the cars parked in the center? The questions is if the person has found a loophole in what can be enforced. JPD's lead CSO weighed in on this topic. He says many cul de sacs have no parking signs around the outside. When people then park in the middle the CSOs can respond and see if it might be appropriate to cite the person for parking too far from the curb or parking on a roadway. Please call 586-0600 and report the location so the CSOs can check it out.
