Q. Are the laws different for city streets and state roads regarding parking against traffic, which I see happening a lot in residential neighborhoods?
Is it ok to park against traffic on City Streets?
Is it ok to park against traffic on State Roads?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Both state administrative code and city ordinance say people must park with the vehicle facing the authorized direction of travel.

The state has the requirement under 13AAC 02.365. CBJ ordinance 72.02.365 has the same language as the state code, noted below.

Except when otherwise provided by ordinance, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a roadway must be stopped or parked parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway in the direction of authorized traffic movement, with its wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the nearest curb or edge of the roadway within 12 inches of that curb or edge of roadway.
