Q. How many years can you wait to file a domestic violence charge

Dear Juneau Resident,

As with other crimes, the statute of limitations apply. The time would depend of the original crimes status as a misdemeanor, A,B, or C felony. The answer would be different if you are talking about applying for a domestic violence protective order. One of the areas of that order has to do with prior acts of domestic violence. In that order, the victim can cite incidents older than what would be subject to prosecution.
