Q. Our son is over one year old, which as I understand it, meets the legal requirement for facing his car seat forward. However, our car seat requires him to be 22lbs and 31in tall in addition to being one year old. Can we still face him forward, or do we have to wait until he meets the car seat specs?

Dear Juneau Resident,

You do have to meet the car seat specs for the use to be legal. JPD does offer free car seat inspections with certified specialists. Just call 586-0600 and say you want a child seat inspection, come by JPD at the set time, and it will take about 20 minutes. Our safety fairs have shown us that most car seats are not being used correctly and may not function the way the parent believes.
