Questions Posted to "Ask a Dispatcher"

Q. Hello, officer. I got a parking ticket but am in such serious financial straits that I can't really handle the fine and will undoubtedly be late on it. I've been doing some searching and can't seem to determine how much time I have before what penalties I potentially face come into effect, other than the late fee and waiving the right to challenge it (what's printed on the citation). I understand that it must be paid and will do so as soon as I am able, but I need all the information so I can budget accordingly and get it done as soon as possible while keeping up with my other bills and not, you know, risking jail. I suppose my question is, what levels of penalty does a late parking ticket payment escalate to and when after the ticket?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Thank you for being so responsible! You have a couple of options. You can call the person who issued the citation, if you can't figure that out call JPD at 586-0600 with the ticket number and we can help. Ask the issuing officer to extend the date to pay which is just before the optional court date. Your second option to is to go to your court date and ask for more time to pay. You can avoid all late fees with either plan. The default and collection fees only come into play if you ignore the ticket and don't respond in any manner.
