Q. Is it legal for an individual(s) to live in a motor home on public property such as the Nugget Mall Parking lot?

Dear Juneau Resident,

The Nugget Mall parking lot is private property and you cannot camp there without the owner/manager's permission and the city may still take issue if there are sewage or other issues.

You may not camp on public property, like at city parks, unless the property is designated for camping.

There are campgrounds and spaces available through the Forest Service for a very small fee and with bathroom facilities available. The Mendenhall Campground, the most convenient to Juneau, opens May 15th. The website is particularly helpful.
