Q. Can a minor child go on a ride along with one of JPD's officers? If so, how old do they have to be in order to be on the ride along legally? Thanks - Frustrated Parent

Dear Juneau Resident,

Riders have to be 18 years old. The reason is that if an officer gets a call that is too dangerous for a civilian, person with a gun, active attack with a weapon, etc... the officer has to be able to drop the rider off anywhere and trust that he or she can make their own way home.

It sounds like you are having some issues with your child and maybe it would help to talk to our School Resource Officer Blain Hatch. You can call 586-0600 and ask for him.
