Q. What's the deal with orange cones and marking off parking downtown? I see cones or signs issued by the city with dates and times, and I see people marking off one or more spots with cones, either with construction/work trucks involved, or sometimes, just an orange cone in a parking spot on the street with nobody around and no sign. Do random cones with no city sign have to be obeyed?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Limited parking should always be associated with some type of permit. If you think an area may not have a permit please call JPD at 586-0600 and ask to speak with a community service officer. There is one store that has taken to putting a cone out when they are expecting a delivery and 'reserving' a spot. The community service officers are aware of this issue and will check on this store.
