Q. Who is responsible for enforcing handicap parking spots? People parking in these spots without a sticker or plate is getting out of hand. One day at Fred Meyer all the spots in front of the store were taken and not one car had a handicap sticker or plate on them. I know the police have much more serious issues to deal with but if they are responsible for this can I take a picture with my cell phone and send it in so these people can at least get a warning?

Dear Juneau Resident,

You should definitely call us when you see this violation. Just use the business line 586-0600. Its a $100 fine and we don't want people with a legitimate need closed out of the spaces. We don't do the photos and warnings since that is as much work without the same behavior changing impact. Law enforcement research has shown warnings are ineffective and the same behavior will continue.
