Q. I know the left lane on Egan is primarily for passing, however with lots of traffic on the road its often driven in. Is it the case that there's a different speed limit in the left lane when driving? I was under the impression that the speed limit is 55mph in both lanes, and yet I know people who've been pulled over for not speeding (going over 55) in the "fast" lane.

Dear Juneau Resident,

The speed limit is the same for both lanes. JPD would like to speak with anyone who has been pulled by a JPD officer for simply failing to speed in the left lane. If someone is going well under the speed limit in good conditions in the left lane that could be impeding traffic. Please have the person who was stopped call JPD and speak with a supervisor since this is a very odd scenario that is being presented it would be nice to know more about it.
