Q. I've seen nothing in the local news about the "high speed chase" on Riverside Drive on Friday evening. Just curious what was going on...and whether the speeding dark-colored SUV was ever stopped. It was very startling to observe, as there were many walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and children in the area (Duck Pond) when I observed the chase in progress...the SUV even passed 2 cars in the "no passing" zone on a curve!

Dear Juneau Resident,

The black Jeep you saw that a JPD officer was trying to stop was being driven, we believe, by a man named Rorie Miller. Since 1-14-2010, Miller has been in hiding/on the run from a no bail warrant. The warrant is for robbery 2nd degree, misconduct involving weapons in the 3rd degree, misconduct involving drugs, out of compliance with probation...

A JPD officer spotted the man he believed to be Miller. When the officer initiated a traffic stop the man started driving crazy to get away. Like you, the officer saw how the Jeep driver was willing to risk running into innocent bystanders in his attempts to get away. The officer called off the pursuit, turned off on Stephen Richards, and deactivated his emergency lights. This was all to try and get the Jeep driver to stop running. The man didn't run into anyone, which is JPD's primary concern, but we did have to let him get away.

JPD is following up with the registered owners of the vehicle and continuing to search for Miller.
