Q. Why don't I ever see JPD down at DIPAC enforcing the no snagging from the dock? Its a city park isn't it? This is a huge problem, and a safety issue and I never see Fish and Game down there. It makes it so its a place I don't want to take my kids!!

Dear Juneau Resident,

What a timely question! It is the time of year you can get your hair parted or even your ear parted down at Dipac. Another time we can discuss the pros and cons of different hook removal techniques. Law enforcement folks on the Kenai have the best stories including how one angler begged an officer to remove a hook in his lower lip saying, "Just cut me, I have to get back out there." The fisherman didn't want to hear about liability and job descriptions. Apparently, it was like a scene out of 'Rocky'.

Let me wander back to the point, the wildlife division of the Alaska State Troopers do enforcement down at Dipac but, of course, they are not on site all the time. To report a problem at the time you see it, call 465-4000, and AST dispatch will see if they have someone to send out there.
