Questions Posted to "Ask a Dispatcher"

Q. This message was recently posted to a local yahoo group. Is it true?

"Just an FYI, but I have heard reports about a man hiding out in the trees at Hidden Park (on Mendenhall Blvd) and using a child to lure other kids into the trees for him.

This man may be armed as well.

I don't know how true this story is but I figured I would err on the side of caution in warning people about this in case it is true. Our kids like to play there but we will not be taking them until I hear that either this guy is caught or the story is not true."

Thanks

Dear Juneau Resident,

Update-A dispatcher did remember something reported in Hidden Park about a month ago, on 5/25/10. Some kids told some other kids in the neighborhood that there was a dirty, beat up man living in the woods at Hidden Park and that he had a gun. JPD officers checked it out immediately, arriving less than 30 minutes after the kids reportedly told the other children about the man. Officers did not locate a man, a camp, or any evidence that someone was living in the park.

JPD has no reports of any behavior even close to this! If we had such a report it would be the talk of the department and we would be pulling out all the stops to catch the guy. We have heard nothing of the sort. If anyone has information that such behavior is going on, JPD wants to talk to them so please encourage whomever is talking about this situation to contact us.
