Q. I was out making my rounds last night and saw that there seemed to be something special going on at Subway here in the valley. Looked to be quite a few officers with their racks light up and shotguns out. I didnt read anything on the bulletin about anything of this nature and was wondering if you could shed some light on this?

Dear Juneau Resident,

that was JPD case #100627-010, which thankfully turned out to be less serious than initially reported. JPD got a call from a 16 year old girl reporting that she was chased by some teenage boys that she knew. The investigation showed that one of them used a BB gun, airsoft gun, or something similar to shoot her. She did have a mark on her consistent with an impact injury but the skin was not broken. One boy is then accused of damaging her bicylce.

The initial report from the girl was that she had been shot and she said she didn't need an ambulance. Traumatic wounds can often cause disorientation so it would make sense that the officers went with a higher level response until it was proven that no actual firearm was involved.

Patrol officers did the initial interviews and referred the case to the Investigations unit.
