Q. Are carseats required for toddlers in commercial vehicles (i.e. taxis and buses)?
Dear Juneau Resident,
Car seats or seat belts ARE REQUIRED for all children in both private and commercial vehicles, except for buses.
Here are the facts:
- Children younger than 1 year of age or less than 20 pounds must be in a rear facing infant seat.
- Children 1 to 4 years and at least 20 pounds must be in an appropriate child restraint.
- Children 4 to 7 years who are less than 57 inches tall or less than 65 pounds must be in a booster seat.
When riding in commercial vehicles (even if it’s just from the airport to your home in The Valley and you left your last bit of patience at SeaTac), you must have a proper safety seat for your child. Some taxi companies have booster seats available, but give advance notice so they know to bring one along. Remember, even if it’s a hassle, it’s to keep our kiddos safe!
