Q. So in regards to the last post about the app that shows insurance information. What about an app on my phone that stores all my cards e.g license, insurance registration, etc. I have registration and insurance in car but would a full view of my license with picture and everything be the same as the license. I always remember my phone but not always my license

Dear Juneau Resident,

The vehicle registration card and driver's license are made by the state and you are required to carry and show, if stopped, the actual state issued card. A copy on your phone isn't going to do it. If the state develops an alternative, like a state app, that could change.

Also, your driver's license has a bar code on the back and an increasing number of police departments are buying devices that read those bar codes and populate blanks in citations and accident reports. JPD is one department that is moving that direction. That particular technology requires the license be scanned like a credit card so the actual card will probably have to be used.
