Q. is Juneau a safe community to raise a family? Dont teenagers get bored and resort to partying and illegal activity?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Juneau is a safe community though we do have small slices of the same problems most American towns have. You can't leave your car door unlocked or items may be stolen out of the vehicle, probably to fund a drug habit. Common sense precautions against crime are important even in Juneau.

Like other towns, some teenagers are going to party and will probably blame it on having nothing to do. That activity and excuse has been going for generations and all over the country. That was certainly the case in Montana in the 1980s. I have heard rumor the same thing happened in Vermont, Salt Lake City, Minnesota...hmmm, seems to be more the rule than the exception.

In Juneau, there are lots of youth-oriented activities, from the high school extra-curricular activities to the ice rink to the swimming pool (a second pool is currently under construction). A new field house was also recently built. Healthy choices are available in Juneau if young people choose that route.
