Q. Every day I check out the warrants listed on your website. Today there are four. But on the daily bulletin there may be several listed as being arrested for outstanding warrants not listed. Why?
Dear Juneau Resident,
This is a great question because it made us here at JPD look at making the list of current warrants more available to the public. The reason you see more warrants served than are listed is we post only a small slice of the current warrants on our website. If people are actually watching and helping us catch people with warrants, it would be better to post more warrants rather than less.
Here is the current practice: When JPD gets a warrant on city charges (misdemeanors only) that warrant comes back to JPD for entry into our records management system and a statewide information system. Those are the only warrants you are seeing on the JPD website currently.
When JPD has a case that leads to a warrant on state charges (felonies and misdemeanors) those warrants go to the Troopers for entry into the statewide information system. The warrant list on the Department of Public Safety website is state warrants grabbed from the statewide system and posted by detachment at http://www.dps.state.ak.us/AST/warrants/. There are 484 pages of warrants in alphabetical order on the PDF file. Don’t go there. Go to the warrant list that ends with ‘csv’. This is an excel list that puts Trooper Detachment A (Southeast Alaska) warrants first. Thanks to your question we have already changed our website. Check it out!
