Q. I am impressed with the two herion case arrests and the arrests made in the oxy bust today, I can only hope you folks are working just as hard to find the truth behind that poor girl on Long Run. It's time for police to step in full board and get control of the problems this town has.

Dear Juneau Resident,

JPD is working hard each day. Unlike people who spent yesterday spreading rumors by text, facebook, and other means, JPD has to operate on facts and evidence that we pursue with vigor.

Yesterday JPD resources were tasked with handling not only a burglary and search of Western Auto and the legwork that led to the drug bust, we had to field calls from people reporting they 'heard' of bodies being found here and there and everywhere. Make no mistake, this rumor mongering distracts from addressing real crimes.

As far as the tragedy on Long Run Drive, please refer to the press release. The entire community is damaged by the loss of a young person who never got the chance to find out what they could make of their life. Anyone who compounds that tragedy with panic and rumors further damages the community. The facts are that the preliminary investigation, prior to the medical examination, shows no signs that anyone inflicted an injury on the young woman. Our condolences go to her family and loved ones. Losing her was a terrible waste.
