Q. Is it legal for cyclists to ride through stop lights in the same lanes with vehicles? I had a cyclist behind me at a stop light today; when the light turned green he tried to cut me off and pass me. He's very lucky I have great peripheral vision!

Dear Juneau Resident,

That cyclist is very lucky indeed! A person on a bicycle riding in the roadway is required to act just like a vehicle when it comes to rules of the road. A bicyclist shouldn't be passing a car in an intersection just like a car shouldn't pass another car in the intersection. Thanks for being aware and driving defensively. While educating bicyclists is important you would have felt rotten if you had struck and hurt the bicyclist no matter how in the wrong he was!
