Q. Is Frederick Howard still missing? If he is why don't you put a picture on the "Missing persons"? Also didn't he used to live in Pelican?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Frederick H. Howard is still missing and his family and JPD would love to hear something about where he might be. Anyone who has information about Howard is encouraged to call JPD. We are currently following up on leads and appreciate the Pelican mention.

Howard's file stayed in JPD investigations for quite awhile because there was a lot of hope early on, in 2009, that he was just taking a break from Juneau and some people in his life and would turn up. Howard has been listed in the big computer that all law enforcement accesses as missing since 9-6-2009. JPD listed him as such in an effort to get a call that he had been contacted in another town or state. JPD also recently put out Howard's picture as a Crime of the Week as we tried to turn up some leads.

Howard's picture has not been in our Missing Person section of the website and that should have happened. When we started that program, all the pictures from our historical missing person files were listed and as each new missing person report comes in the picture is added. Howard’s file was in investigations being actively worked and still is in that status so nothing triggered his picture being put on the website. JPD apologizes and we are now looking for any missing persons that may have been caught mid-investigation when we stood up that part of our website. We are now putting Howard's picture on our website and though we don't believe he has been on the streets of Juneau in almost two years, we did a lot of interviews, maybe the picture will inspire someone to provide information about Howard.
