Q. Is it illegal in ak to park within a certain distance of a stop sign? Even if there is no sign saying not to park there? Since they completed construction on 4th St downtown, they haven't replaced the sign, and it's become a safety hazard. Cars parked immediatley in front of the sign prevent traffic from forming two lanes at the intersection.

Dear Juneau Resident,

It is illegal to park within ten feet of a crosswalk at an intersection (CBJ ordinance 72.02.340(d2E)). Having a sign does help since some people may not know of the ordinance.

A very nice lady at the CBJ streets division told me that construction on 4th Street is just finishing and things like curb painting and signs tend to come last. You can give her a call and see what the schedule might be for sign replacement. That number is 586-5256.
