Q. There needs to be a better system than the crimeline because by the time any tip is actually read, the information is so old, the people have most likely moved around. It's hard to keep faith in those who are supposed to protect us when they have been given the information needed but still don't do anything about it.

Dear Juneau Resident,

I'm not sure why you feel that substantial time goes by before a tip is read. Since Crime Line went on-line earlier this year, information is moving very quickly....often in just minutes.

The bigger question is can officers act on the information provided. Very often the piece that's missing is a license number or something concrete that identifies a suspect or a person of interest. Having said that, we always encourage people to provide any information they have as it could be the one link that officers are missing.

In any case officers do the best they can with what they have to work with, which of course does not always satisfy us all.
