Questions Posted to "Ask a Dispatcher"
Q. I have a question. I know that JPD has a file on most people in town, and that they have very specific info from their car computers. Is there anyway to get a copy of EVERYTHING JPD has on me? Not just the cases/tickets; but all the notes, comments, reported things ive done, etc....?
Dear Juneau Resident,
As part of JPD's automated records system, there is a "master name index" which lists contacts with people who are involved in incidents where a police report of some kind was taken. For example if you were arrested for an offense, you received a citation, or you were the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash, under your name in the Index would be a notation identifying the incidents by case number.
Almost all of the records maintained by JPD are either public records or will become public records at some point in time. As a public record your information is available to you by presenting a photo-ID and paying a minimal charge at the Department's public service desk.
Generally speaking, case records that you may have been involved in are not available for release until they are closed, and then in certain types of cases, some information must be redacted by law.
