Q. Are there specific knife length laws in Juneau, and if so, would I legally be able to carry a machete if I were to go for a hike to clear obstacles along my path, or would I have to avoid such action?

Dear Juneau Resident,

Legal issues with knives generally involve concealed carry, which is not something an average person would do with a machete, or assaultive behavior. You are able to legally carry a machete to clear vegetation while you are hiking. Just make sure if you contact other people that you don't use the machete in such a way that you could be considered threatening by a reasonable person. That is basically common sense. Happy hiking!
